OVERVIEW

GoPro released a competitive drone to the market in 2016. (delayed to 2017)

The Karma Drone included a controller, with custom UI (android-powered) through our design team. Our team consisted of several visual designers, interaction designers, a production team, an in-house research team, and a motion designer.

I was the lead production designer on the team and co-visual designer for the Karma Controller's user interface.

THE GOAL

To launch a beautiful and user-friendly UI for the Karma drone, on time

RESPONSIBILITIES + TOOLS

  • Visual Design (cutting assets), Production (redline specifications, delivering to FW), QA (coordinating with offshore teams to ensure correct implementation)

  • Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign)

THE PROCESS

My process is determined by several factors such as the project goals, business needs, complexity of the problem, and project time. Our process for this project involved vetting product needs with the right stakeholder teams, doing proper research studies (inhouse and outsourced), weekly syncs with both in house and outsourced design teams to discuss requirements and project goals. The visual design team worked closely with the interaction team to outline interactions and gestures within the OS. We put together a custom visual style and icon set for the Karma controller which still matched GoPro visual styling.

REDLINES

As the lead production designer for Karma, it was my responsibility to make sure every screen was fully spec'd for our engineering team, as well as cutting all assets and delivering to firmware in all android sizes.
